The Benefits of Soft-Tissue Lasers

Apr 7 • 1 minute read

At Parkside Dental, we make a point to use state-of-the-art dental tools, techniques, and technologies. Advances in modern dentistry are almost constant, and we want to pass the benefits along to you, our patient. Soft-tissue lasers are one such example.

What is a soft-tissue laser? Soft-tissue lasers are ultrasonic scalers that make cleaning the teeth more effective and comfortable. Scaling (or scraping plaque away) by hand can be uncomfortable for patients, particularly when there is a lot of plaque to remove. These lasers work by using high-frequency, ultrasonic sound waves that effectively vibrate the tartar and plaque off the teeth.

The 3 Biggest Benefits of Soft-Tissue Lasers

Below are three great reasons to ask about soft-tissue laser options at your next dental appointment.

1. Treatment is so gentle that anesthetic is rarely needed. When a soft-tissue laser is used to clean teeth or treat gum disease, patients are pleasantly surprised by how little discomfort they feel. In fact, patients who are usually afraid of the dentist appreciate this treatment the most!

2. Its fast! That’s right, you can expect your cleaning or gum disease treatment to go very quickly when a soft-tissue laser is used in place of traditional methods.

3. Gums often heal and reattach to the tooth root much faster when a soft-tissue laser is used for scaling. Since soft-tissue lasers remove tartar both above and below the gum line more easily than hand scaling, they promote the quick healing of the gums.
